SPRING BREAK IS FINALLY HERE!
Looking ahead at the week long vacation, I now realize that there is a lot of stuff that has to be done. Tomorrow a friend and I are leaving for Missouri to visit one of our friends who goes to college there. I am kind of nervous for this trip, as I have never been to Missouri and do not know how to get to the college or motel where we are staying. I am planning on just winging it. Hmmm....well if you call using a GPS system and directions winging it. Still, the trip should prove to be extremely fun and I cannot wait. The only bad thing about it is we have to leave by 7:00 in the morning if we want to arrive in time to eat supper with our friend. Of course, that's assuming that we don't get lost. Whatever happens, we will make the best out of it.
When I get back on Tuesday, it is time to play catch-up on some of my homework that's been piling up on me. I have a research paper to write for my honors class which is entitled Social Gerontology. Sounds pretty scary right? Actually, it is not that bad. If I can get at least two pages of that done over break, I will be satisfied.
Also, this past week during jazz band practice I was informed that all the trumpets would be doing solos for a song. As a result, my trumpet is coming home with me as well. I fgiure the more amount of time I spend working on that solo, the less nervous I will be.
On top of the above things, I have to update my dad's real estate website. I am in charge of updating information on houses as well as adding new properties to the website. It is work that is not too difficult and I get paid to do it! It is always nice to have some extra spending money, especially if you are a "poor" college student. However, be careful to not load yourself up with too many jobs. Remember, college is a time to have fun, so don't overwork.
Until next time,

BIG DAY TOMORROW!
Man! I for sure thought today was going to be a snow day! The way the weather was looking, it didn't seem like there could be any other possible way. However, the snow let up and chances of the college having a snow day disappeared. Well, that's ok I guess, as long as the weather remains nice through tomorrow. There is far too many important things happening tomorrow for school to be called off.
For one, I have an Ambassador interview tomorrow. The Mount Marty Ambassadors are basically a group of junior students who represent the college at certain social functions. They help the President host dinner parties, usher at graduation and other college events, welcome special guests to campus, and do so much more as well. Basically, they are the college's image when it comes to serving the community. I am a little nervous for this interview, because being an Ambassador is a really big deal. It is a lot of work but also a very respectable position to hold. I can only give it my best and see where things go from there.
I am also giving a presentation in one of my classes tomorrow. The class is called Integrating Technology into Teaching and Learning. This class deals with how future educators should incorporate different technological tools into the classroom. The project that I am presenting is a videocollage. A videocollage is basically a series of video clips from different DVD's that center around a certain theme or message. I chose to do scenes from the television series LOST (great show by the way, I highly recommend it). My theme is that people need to all learn to work together in order to make it in this world. Before presenting my videocollage on the big screen, I have to say a few words describing why I chose what I did. While I am not too concerned about this presentation, I still am afraid that something will go wrong with my video during playback.
Tomorrow is also my second round of play practice. As I mentioned in my previous post, practices do not last very long yet. The director's goal is for us to have all of our lines memorized when we come back after spring break. This means that I need to start cracking down and get those things memorized as spring break is in one week!!
Speaking of spring break, I almost forgot to mention where I am going over this vacation. A friend and I are heading down to Missouri to visit one of our old high school friends. IT SHOULD BE A BLAST AND I CAN'T WAIT! The only thing is, I have never been to Missouri and I'm driving....yeah, that should prove to be quite an interesting drive. Oh well, I am sure we will get there safe and sound. Mount Marty is also sending students on various spring break service trips. Some students are heading off to Texas while others are going to Mississippi. There is even a small group of students heading to a reservation in South Dakota to help out. All the students that I have talked to about these trips say they are one of the greatest things to experience. This is definitely something to consider when you begin your college experience.
Until next time,

First Play Practice!
Well, I had my first play practice of the semester today. The current theatre production Mount Marty is putting on is very different from the typical "stage" production. In fact, I have never even heard of something like this production being done around this area. For one, this production is peformed outdoors rather than on a stage and two, the setup of it is similar to a parade.
Basically, the play is centered around five wagons, each having its own scene from the Bible. What this means is that each wagon tecnnically has its own cast, as performers on one wagon do not leave it and go to other wagons. To ensure that all of the audience members sitting alongside the road see the performance, each wagon will perform four times at four different locations on the road. At one point in the play, four wagons will be performing at once! The cast for this play is over 40 individuals, which is pretty historical for Mount Marty. Now that the college has a theatre major, productions like this can be possible along with many other great opportunities.
As I mentioned above, today was my scene's first practice. I am playing the part of Gabriel, the angel who tells Mary she is pregnant. I found out that I get a pair of wings (pretty excited about that) and a long trumpet-like instrument. I actually get to play a fanfare on it to introduce God (who is played by Tony, another blogger). I also get to work with the characters of Mary and Joseph. Finally, there is a small choir of women also in the scene who sing a short song. Which reminds me, not only is this play on wagons, it also includes choirs and instruments! There are multiple choirs involved in this project, as well as trumpets and a recorder group. I am already looking forward to the next play practice. I can't wait to perform!
I am pretty pumped for this play production. A lot of hard work and effort is being put into it at the current moment, and I know there will be much more needed as the weeks progress. I will be sure to update you on this process.
Until next time,
-Cody
P.S. The show is at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 5th. It's free of charge and will be quite the powerful experience!

A Typical Day For Me
Hey everyone!
I am new to this whole blogging setup, so I am pretty excited to give it a try. I will do my best to add a new blog daily and basically update you with how my college experience is going. With that in mind, I thought that I would start off by going through a typical day for me here at Mount Marty.
My day usually begins at 6:50 in the morning when my alarm goes off. You are probably thinking why 6:50? Well by the time I get showered, stuff my backpack full of books, and check my e-mail, it is nearing 7:30 and that is when breakfast begins. Breakfast is what makes my day. You can basically order anything you want, from omelletes to burritos and even pancakes. Also avaible is a variety of cereal, toast, or waffles. I definitely make an effort to get to breakfast every morning.
After finishing breakfast, I head off to my first class at 8:00-Measurement, Evaluation, and Management. While it is a mouthful to say, it is my favorite class so far and I will explain why in a future post. Following this class is my hour of work study from 9:00-10:00, which involves me tutoring at the Center for Academic Excellence. This is a free service for all college students. They can come to this center to receive help in any of the subject areas the school offers. I enjoy working in the center because it gives me a nice feeling knowing I am helping others. I also believe it is great practice for when I become a teacher.
At 10:00, it is time for another class-Discrete Mathematics. I will admit that when I first heard that I had to take this class, I was very nervous. However, now that I am in the class, I know I can handle it. Immediately following this class is Human Relations Skills, another class of mine which runs until noon.
After my noon lunch hour, I make my way to my final class for awhile: Elementary Statistics. This is one of my larger classes that I have this semester, but the size is one that is still comfortable for me. When this class gets out a little before 2:00, I have a break until 6:30. I use this time to catch up on homework, attend club meetings, and hang out with friends. I prefer having my classes all in a row in the morning rather than spread out across the afternoon. It just makes the day more manageable.
When 6:30 rolls around, I can be found playing in the concert band. I am currently alternating between the parts of third and fourth trumpet. We are playing some pretty interesting pieces this semester, and I think the concert is going to be amazing. At 7:30, I have my LAST class of the day! This class is Theatre Practicum and is not run in the same format as other classes. I will explain more about this class in a future post as well.
Finally, my day is complete at 8:00 pm. As I mentioned in my profile description, I am usually on my toes for most of the day. However, I enjoy the busy lifestyle and I wouldn't know what to do with my time if my schedule was not so packed. I enjoy being involved because it gives me a sense of accomplishment.
As I mentioned earlier, I plan on further explaining many more of these items in future blogs.
Until next time,
